Dachirri Sherpa made Nepal’s mark in Winter Olympics 2010

February 17. Dachiri Sherpa, a lone Olympian competing from Nepal in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics finished Men’s 15km free-style event of Cross-Country Skiing at the 92nd position in 44’:26.5’’ on February 15. He lagged by 10’:50.2’’ behind Swiss skier Dario Cologna who bagged the coveted Gold medal.  

NRN-Canada’s President Mr. Nabaraj Gurung has expressed his appreciation to Sherpa for his enthusiasm to make Nepal’s mark in the Winter Olympics in Canada.

"I just want to participate and do my best, but I do not have any objective in mind other than that," the 40-year-old former construction worker told Reuters. "One day, I want to make a small track in Nepal for cross-country skiing. That will make me very happy."

Dachhiri has previously competed at top level in cross-country skiing, placing 94th in the 15km classic at the 2006 Turin Winter Games and 76th in the 30km pursuit at last year's world championships. (Report by D. Rasali)
