NRN-Canada successfully held a community interaction program on December 20th, 2008 at University of Regina Conference hall. All the members and families of the people of Nepali origin living in Regina attended the Program. NRN-Canada NCC member Mr. Chakra Balayar convened the program. NRN-Canada Vice President Mr. Chitra Pradhan was the chief guest for the event. Also present in the event was NRN-Canada Advisor Dr. Drona Rasali.
The main theme of the program was to make the members aware of NRN-Canada and its objectives, the activities it's doing and will do such as dual citizenship issues, saving/developing our culture/traditions and social values while getting well integrated in the multicultural society in Canada.
Here are the some of issues raised by the attendees and our members:- The DUAL citizenship issue should be solved at the earliest to make NRN feel more attached with Nepal, to make them more liable towards Nepal, to encourage them to invest (not only financially) back in Nepal, to invest more and to keep going Nepal.
- NRN-Canada should start National Signature Campaign for pressurizing Canadian Government to establish Embassy or Consul in Kathmandu.
- Though there seems some improvement in Opening Nepalese Consul or Embassy in Canada by the recent decision of Nepal government, still we need to use different channels to lobby for speeding up the process.
Some other issues are to keep running such kind of community events where Nepalese culture, values and traditions can be felt and the tie up among our members can be bonded.
